Firefighter Challenge x Muertos Coffee

“Competition with a Purpose” – The origins of the Firefighter Challenge started in 1975 with a U.S. Fire Administration grant to the University of Maryland to develop and validate a job-related physical performance examination for firefighters. The principal investigators of the study were Dr. Charles O. Dotson and Dr. Paul O. Davis. While subsequently working as a leading occupational physiologist 15 years later, Dr. Davis came up with the idea of the Firefighter Challenge, a real-life research project utilizing a competition style event to draw participants. Thirty-years later, thanks to our corporate sponsors and industry leaders in public safety, the event has served more than 60,000 firefighters. The research data obtained has been a game-changer for those departments that have implemented the recommended strategies.
